Final Fantasy Dissidia

•March 5, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Final Fantasy Dissidia is the very first Final Fantasy game to tackle the fighting genre.  This was a revolutionary step for Final Fantasy delving into something they had never done before and it generated a lot of hype, unfortunately it didn’t live up to it.

Final Fantasy Dissidia felt like a very weak fighting game, that only tried to appeal to Final Fantasy fans by throwing in the fans favorite hero’s and villains from the Final Fantasy series and having them battle it out. The combat system is alright at best and is very basic, it starts out with a few standard moves but later your able to upgrade your move lists. With the combat system you’re able to level up and buy new abilities that can add a new rotation of moves to your character. Unfortunately even with the wide array of moves and abilities you still find yourself using the same basic moves from the beginning. The fighting style is very unusual from others, it has the classic knock their HP to zero but another addition is they have a shield bar as well, which you have to bring down before you can damage their health. Another major problem with the combat is the camera angles, they are some of the worst I have seen in a fighting game. It’s constantly switching and messing up your fight.

The game however does provide hours of fun by creating some crazy Final Fantasy matchups that you can only dream about such as fight between Tidus and Sephiroth. This is probably the most beneficial and exciting thing about Final Fantasy Dissidia. Unfortunately even this option gets old and the only thing you have left is to do the story mode which sorry to say is very lacking.

The story mode of Dissidia is quite boring simply because of the fact that every characters story mode is quite similar in the fighting mode. The only difference is that there are some cutscenes that are unique to each character. The cutscenes are actually quite interesting and really delve into the characters personality but unfortunately there not enough make this game good.

All in all I believe that Final Fantasy Dissidia is an okay fighting game and definitely not a good game for the Final Fantasy series. So if your deciding on a fighting game to choose go with something like tekken, and if your deciding on a good Final Fantasy game, go for FFVII or FFX.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles

When I purchased Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles I was under the impression that a  Final Fantasy game that wasn’t amazing didn’t exist, I quickly found this to be false.

http://www.nyeweb.com/reviews/ffcc_final_fantasy_crystal_chronicles4b.jpg

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was the first Final Fantasy I purchased on a nintendo system and I was sadly dissapointed. The game started off with an intriguing story and the unique option to choose your race and proffesion of your character. The proffesion system of Crystal Chronicles was unique to any other Final Fantasy game it played out more like an RPG such as World of Warcraft with their primary professions. You had many options to choose from ranging from a blacksmith to things such as a tailor. This was fun for a while but what made this system fail is unlike WoW where there are many players you can trade with who have different professions your stuck with your one proffesion. So if you need something from a different profession your out of luck. The only way you can use multiple proffesions is if you have friends playing with you, which leads me to the multiplayer.

The multiplayer in this game is awful, I found it to be an awful experience for a game that had the ability to have an amazing multiplayer. My first complaint is the fact that you can’t use gamecube controllers to play as another character you have to use gameboy advance. Now if your thinking well a lot of my friends have gameboy advances so I’m good, YOUR NOT. Not only do you need to have a gameboy advance you must purchase a seperate cable that attaches your gameboy advance to the gamecube. I feel that it’s a little ridiculous that my friends have to fork out twenty dollars to play a game I already paid for. Another problem I had with the multiplayer system is the fusion system. The fusion system works by casting magic at the same time in the same spot on the screen to create a powerful spell. The main problem with this is you have to cast your spells extremely quick because if you don’t the enemy will move out of the way or just hit you, making this more of an annoyance than a benefit.

Hoewever with all the negatives this game has it was still not an awful game by any means it had a good story and the ability to choose a class was really fun. I also highly enjoyed the option to upgrade your armor and weapons to create a noticeable difference in the difficulty of the game and the appearance of your character. The boss fights were also quite fun as they are in all Final Fantasy games and the adventure throughout the way provides enough fun to make up for some of the negatives.

Final Fantasy XII

•December 13, 2009 • Leave a Comment

I’m very picky about which Final Fantasy games I choose to write my blogs about and it usually comes down to which ones I thought were the best of the best, and Final Fantasy XII is no exception.

When I first heard of Final Fantasy XII I was skeptical at first, I was wondering how any ps2 Final Fantasy game could compare to Final Fantasy X, and I had no idea what to think of the new battle system. But being the Final Fantasy addict that I am I had to purchase it. I quickly realized from the starting scene how it was going to compete with Final Fantasy X.

The opening scene of Final Fantasy XII looks like a scene from a movie, it exceeded any expectation I had for the graphics of this game by far. After being wowed by the opening scene I quickly began to learn the combat style of the game which I’ll have to admit was a nice refresher from the usual Final Fantasy combat system. The battle system is time based like other Final Fantasy games but the difference is you only control one character. Which makes a fightlast around 10 seconds rather than the 3 minutes a fight usually takes. Since you are only able to control one character out of your 3 party members the other 2 use what is called the gambit system. Which allows them to do various things such as attacking the enemy that the party leader is attacking. Or casting cure on a party member when they fall below 50 percent.

The only problems I had with the combat system was that it relied much too heavily upon the new quickenings and summons. which are very similar to a characters overdrive ability,  except for the fact that it can be uses an unlimited amount by your characters as long as they had learned the ability and had full mana. The same goes for a summon they can be summoned as many times as you want as long as the character summoning them has a full bar of mana. Other than that I really enjoyed the new combat system and cannot wait to see how it evolves in FFXIII

The storyline was a little different than most Final Fantasy tend to follow. Instead of an evil entity trying to destroy the entire world the story is about an evil emperor who is trying to conquer all of Ivalice for the empire after killing his father Vayne recieves the full power of the emperor and controls all of the empires army. So with your very unusual group of heroes including a vierra ( an elf like rabbit), a sky pirate,a  queen,a general, and two orphans you embark on your journey too find a power great enough to stop vayne.

Overall I found this game to be very enjoyable and with it’s great storyline and new combat system it has quickly moved it’s way up to one my favorite Final Fantasy games.

Final Fantasy XIII

One of the most highly anticipated games of the 2010 year happens to be Final Fantasy XIII. and why shouldn’t it be? It seems to me like Final Fantasy is really stepping up their game for the release of this game. The graphics are magnificent, reaching heights i didn’t believe to be possible in a video game at this day in age. The storyline seems more in-depth than even Final Fantasy X was, and everything just seems to scream perfection.

The arrival of the new combat system is also quite intriguing. It’s different from how most of the other final fantasy games have based their combat systems on. It is very similar to the way final fantasy crisis core uses that battle system and seems like a cross between the crisis core battle system and the final fantasy XII battle system. Which i personally found to be the most enjoyable way to fight in the Final Fantasy series.

Another great addition to this game is the leveling system. Now usually there’s not much you can do with a leveling system in the Final Fantasy game besides running outside and grinding monsters until your stats are high enough to eliminate the next boss. But with this game they’re going back to a similar leveling system like Final Fantasy X. Which I found to be the most enjoyable leveling system in all of Final Fantasy, which was the sphere grid. The sphere grid allowed you to choose your path of how you wanted to level a character so if you really wanted to, you could make a character that was meant for speed and agility into a spell caster or vice versa a spell caster into a melee character.

Another interesting thing about Final Fantasy XII is that it’s going to be made into three different games part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis with Final Fantasy XII being the big selling game of the three. The other two games Versus and Agito both take place in the same world but don’t follow the same storyline with any of the others. Therefore making it so fans don’t have to buy every game to get the full story.

Unfortunately we wont be able to try out this new Final Fantasy game until March 9 but it will definitely be worth the wait. I’m assuming with all the time spent into making this game that this will be the most in-depth Final Fantasy game ever created.

Final Fantasy Tactics and its Twin

•October 16, 2009 • 3 Comments

One of my favorite games out of the Final Fantasy series was Final Fantasy Tactics. It was actually the second Final Fantasy game I had ever purchased. So you could imagine my surprise when I realized the combat system was so different. Final Fantasy Tactics is based in land of Ivalice where there is massive feud going on between the Nobles and the Death Corps.

The big difference between this Final Fantasy and the others is the combat system. Most of the other final fantasy games are based on a standstill time based or turn based combat, while this Final Fantasy is turn based strategy without the standstill. Your characters depending on what job they are they can move certain distances to reach the enemy players and perform an action. This was a new and very entertaining way to play the Final Fantasy games and received great reviews.

Final Fantasy Tactics was one of the games in the series that really got me hooked. When I realized they were making a Final Fantasy Tactics Advance I was ecstatic. I had to get this new game, one of my favorite final fantasy games on a portable gaming system it couldn’t get better. I was not disappointed. Final Fantasy Advance was very similar to the original in that it kept the same great concepts like the job system which was being able to make any character have any abilities, like have a well rounded melee and magic casting group or just one group of all spell casters. The setting was also the same it stayed in the land of Ivalice but had a much different story. Final Fantasy advance also added a missions section to the game, allowing more game play and freedom from the main storyline. In the original tactics you had no other options other than just following the main storyline, while Tactics Advance gave you several options.

All in all I believe that these are two of the finest games in the Final Fantasy series, and if you’re a diehard Final Fantasy fan or just someone who enjoys an in-depth strategy RPG this is the game for you.

Final Fantasy VII Versus Final Fantasy X

•August 25, 2009 • 1 Comment

One of the biggest controversies dealing with Final Fantasy, that always seems to pop up on different websites,  which is the greatest Final Fantasy game? Now many of you out there will criticize me and not agree with my choice but I do not believe Final Fantasy VII is the greatest Final Fantasy game.

Now don’t get me wrong Final Fantasy VII will be one of my favorite Final Fantasy games until the series comes to an end, but I believe that Final Fantasy X was the best game to emerge from the series. One key component that both of these games have in common, and the reason that they are both so highly acclaimed in the series, is that they both have incredible storylines. Now many of you who have played the Final Fantasy series know that the gameplay doesn’t vary all that much between games, the fighting style is similar but varies a little in between games. What makes them great games is there storyline.

Final Fantasy VII has a great storyline, that every Final Fantasy fan knows of. For those of you who don’t though, the story is about a young man named Cloud Strife who was a part of the soldier program in Shinra. He later learns the hero he looked up to is the villain and learns in order to save the world he has to defeat sephiroth.

Final fantasy VII combines there storyline and gameplay into a great game, but there is still a lot of questions that are left unanswered in this game, and keep many players try to guess what happened to certain characters throughout the game.

Final Fantasy X’s story is another great story developed for the Final Fantasy series. You play as the protagonist Tidus who travels the world of Spira in order to defeat Sin. Who is sent to wipe out the world of Spira as punishment for everyone relying on machina to run there world. With a wide variety of characters the character is turned into one of the greatest games of all time.

What’s so different about Final Fantasy X and the other Final Fantasy games are that the storyline and gameplay are all combined perfectly into one game. The storyline like Final Fantasy VII’s are the best that Square has produced. The difference between Final Fantasy X is that the storyline is so easy to follow but yet still very in depth. I never had to stop the game and ask myself who is this is cahracter? Why am I here? or whatever happened to that guy?

Therefore I believe that Final Fantasy X is the best Final fantasy game in the series. But not by any large means at all. If you are new to the Final Fantasy series and are interested in which one to buy. Purchasing either Final Fantasy VII or X would be a great buy and I can assure you that you would not be dissapointed.

You can purchase Final fantasy VII from Amazon- Link will be provided later.

You can also purchase Final Fantasy X from Amazon as well- Link will be provided later.
